Farmall M Brake Adjustment



The Farmall M was produced for over 20 years, and some of the newer M models used a brake disc with a mechanical disc expander. The adjustment is still made at the brake pedal and the adjustment from the brake housing. Be sure the seals on the brake drum or disc are not leaking. If the seal is leaking, adjustment will not help.

Re: Farmall M brake adjustment in reply to garry lee, 08-23-2006 11:40:27 The bottom bolt only helps to center the band on the drum. Lock the brakes on tight; then turn the bottom bolt fully in, back it 1/2 turn out, and lock it in place with the locknut provided.

All adjustment is done at the turnbuckle. That adjustment screw at the bottom of the pan has absolutely nothing to do with the functioning of the brakes other than it centers the loop of the band around the brake drum when not applied. Supposed to keep the band from needless wearing when the brake is.

Re: Farmall M Brake Adjustment in reply to Lance, 02-09-2000 18:19:56 Lance, There is a set screw on the bottom of the band cover.screw it in as til it stops, then back it off 1/2 a turn. Get the correctt petal movement distance with the threaded yoke.

As I recall you loosen the locknut, run the little bolt up snug, then back off 1/4 turn, snug down the locknut, and only then do you adjust the brakes .
